My husband has been offered a job in Orange County, CA and I want to know how it is there compared to the south. I grew up here in Alabama and I'm not so sure I want to move. Has anyone been to both places? How do they compare as far as quality of life. I can see that the real estate out there is quite expensive compared to here in Mountain Brook. Any advice would help!

Quality of life has so many different facets.

Alabama: Less expensive housing, way lower taxes, way lower electricity rates (here in Huntsville it is about $0.09/kwhr), cheaper gasoline, way less traffic

Orange County: Better weather (by far), more diversity, more secular (less religious culture), prettier and more attention paid to master planning and community aesthetics, not obsessed with football.

Where is your husband's job?
Would this be a permanent move (versus a planned temporary move of a couple years)?
Buying or renting? What is your budget?
Kids? Ages?
Will you be working also?
Do you have any family in California?

Well we have made the decision to move to Orange County. I am looking forward to the change. We went out there last week to look around and found a nice home close to the beach. I am very excited about the move and I am hoping to meet some new friends. Are there any other southern women in Orange County?
