My job involves sort of camping, traveling from place to place and bringing much of my own food with me. My last trip, I brought mostly food that was carb heavy and therefore very unhealthy: crackers, mac and cheese, oatmeal, etc, because the food can't be perishable. My next trip is right after Christmas and I would like to avoid even more weight gain, so does anyone know of healthy (or healthier) foods I could take?
I fly from one village to another every other day. I have access to a fridge/microwave, but the food has to stay fresh for up to 16 hours at a time with no refrigeration. I usually don't have access to a stove so it has to be easy to prepare or require no preparation. I have also brought dried fruit, protein bars, and trail mix, but those are also calorie dense. I can't haul a cooler with me because I'm flying in tiny planes so I am weight restricted.

Interesting job - I'm just sitting here wondering why you are flying from village to village around the Houston area without access to food.
You can get those squeeze things of fruit that are non perishable, tuna and chicken come in sealed foil packs that don't have to be refrigerated, fresh fruit.

TBH, it sounds more like s/he's traveling in Alaska.
