We are planning to leave for our drive to FL house around Nd of June I think
We are pulling one of these Go Tents from Sylvan Sports

https://www.sylvansport.com/go/

Planning to drive about 6 hrs a day and take 2 days vs the 1night on the road when we were just driving.
Would prefer to use I 20 from Dallas to Jackson MS then down through Hattiesburg to catch I-10 outside Mobile and cross FL panhandle to I 75 south to Sarasota

We could go south from Shreveport to I 10 but that is such a hard road and way more trucks

Any suggestions for public/private camping spots, preferably ones you have personal knowledge of

We will be traveling with pets—a senior dog and cat—

Cost is not as much a factor as clean, safe, well-run...

Suggestion: East Texas, Southern Mississippi and South Alabama are not exactly the most scenic places in the South.

Unless you're going to Dallas for a reason, have you thought about going where Floridians go on vacation--North GA, NW SC, Western NC and East TN mountains.

We're heading to our RV in Helen, Georgia on Wednesday. The mountains an hour outside of Atlanta are absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere of the region is also great.

Get a campsite at the Hiawassee, GA fairgrounds in the middle of Lake Chatuge and you'll know what I mean. It looks like the Smokies but is not as far. And great campgrounds are all over the region.

Another favorite place is Tallulah River Road north of Lake Burton (west of Clayton). It's a 14 mile sand road thru virgin forests going back and forth across trout streams. Known as the prettiest place in Georgia.

And I say this as someone that traveled the entire South extensively on business for 25 years.

We have two homes
One in DFFW area and one just south of Sarasota FL
We are choosing to travel this way to avoid staying in motels or renting an RV
So it is not where we would choose to go camping
It is a solution to a problem

Sorry I misunderstood. Unfortunately some parts of traveling throrugh the southeast is just not very interesting.

Few realize the distances being so great in Florida. On the old 4 lane highway, it's 425 miles just from Clearwater to Pensacola alone. It's farther by I-10 to I-75.

Most would take the interstate through Shreveport to Jax, MS and then 4 lane down thru Hattiesburg into the Mobile area. Then, I-10/I-75 the rest of the way.

I'm an RV'er, however such a trip would be a one night motel overnight trip for me.
