Well how about this as a tie. Our legal system is modeled totally on that of the UK. Canadian law depends on English presedents.

Our political system is the English system of government.

We are an important part of the commonwealth of nations that ties us to the UK.

Our ties to the UK keep us more independent from The USA and if were not for that we would have long ago been assimilated into the USA by the doctorine of Manifest destiny.

Our entire country was a result of colonization by the English and the French. The reason we are such a law and order nation is because of our English traditions as opposed to that of the USA with their republican traditions.

These are just a very few of the hundreds of reasons that Canada tied to the UK.

Well, it was built out of English precedent and I won't deny that for certain very basic, fundamental points of common law, English case law is still relevant to this day, but Canada has used its own case law as precedent for the most part since the 1930s or thereabouts.

True.

Although with a few notable exceptions, the Commonwealth is neither that important nor relevant to our world dealings or the dealings of any of the world's true powers.

Yeah, because that would have been, like, totally awful, dude.

Canadians do love a cop and a guy with a badge and a clipboard telling them what to do.

Default Why isn't the United States part of France?

As this Canadian understands it, the United States is a republic and France is a republic. Americans eat a lot of French fries. Why isn't the United States part of France? Not that this keeps me up at night, I'm just innocently and randomly curious.

And worse yet, the United States uses the English language. Shouldn't they join the UK or get another language or something?

Wait a minute. Bermuda uses the American dollar and is off the coast of the USA. A lot of Americans vacation there. In fact 85% of all tourists and business visitors and more than 75% of all imports come from the USA. And Americans love to wear Bermuda shorts. Why isn't the USA a part of Bermuda?

Depending on who you ask. if you asked a senior English descendant, they would probably say they like the monarchy. However, ask a young recent immigrant to Canada, and they'll have a very different view. Depends really on who you ask. Generally, the older, whiter and further east you go, you'll get a different response vs. going further west and seeking out an answer from younger and non-white respondents.
I think we could get rid of them, but holding a referendum on the matter, then bringing it to a vote would probably just be too costly. Plus, they really have no influence on an everyday working Canadian anyways, so I don't really think anyone really cares what happens.
Having said that, there are people that don't like having a governor general as an official representative for the queen of England. It's a waste of taxpayers money, and i gets us nowhere. There is absolutely no benefit to having the position.
One only has to look at the disastrous tenure of our former GG, Michelle Jean. If you want specifics you can google her, but never was there a more controversial person than her. Spent taxpayers money like it was her own personal piggy bank, and a lot of people were displeased with the fact she wasn't even Canadian born. ( I personally don't car, I just hate paying more taxes for someone so utterly useless).

It would cost just as much per annum - likely more - to have an elected head of state. There are other rationales for removing the Queen or Queen's rep as head of state but a cost savings isn't one of them.

Of course not. The only other currency that some stores will take is the USD.
