My answer was based on the shop employee driving the car into the bay. I have never done it myself, so I certainly would not think it would be allowed for a customer to drive their own car into the bay.
Basically, external stuff that damages your car is covered?
The only thing that isn't is if your car is dying dying and just dies (engine, timing belt goes) and you have to buy another car without insurance help?

Well, external stuff is covered if it isn't done intentionally (or through gross negligence) by the policyholder or with his explicit or implicit consent. If you decide to douse your car in gasoline and toss a Zippo at it, or give your friend permission to do it, your insurance is gonna tell you to get bent -- unless you lie about it and say some stranger just walked up and did it, in which case you've committed insurance fraud. Or if you decide to take your car to the race track and you end up stuffing it, your insurance company is gonna tell you to take a hike. Insurance generally will cover damage due to simple negligence, such as misjudging where the pit is when you're pulling into Jiffy Lube. When it comes down to it, mot accidents are the result of negligence on someone's behalf. If insurance didn't cover simple boneheadery, there would be a lot less incentive to carry it and driving would be very financially risky.
But yeah, if your car just dies, you're SOL unless it's under warranty or you have extended warranty coverage. And some of the third-party extended warranty companies are a bit unreliable, to put it charitably.
lol, the video made my day.. the shop should certainly cover the damage. there should be a cover on it in the first place before the car comes in, or if not a cover, a huge lump surrounding the opening.
