so here's the thing. Since I have become pregnant, my cat will not sit in my lap or not even next to me. If I pick her up, she will act as if I am sending electric shocks to her and wants to jump out of my arms within 10-15 seconds.

Before i became pregnant, she would actually look out and jump into my lap the moment i sat down!! I am pretty sure she knew much before i got to know that i am pregnant because i remember her new strange behavior and did wonder about it.

Other than this lap thing and sending out the electric shocks feeling, she acts pretty normal. I still am 'her' person. She will come to me for playing, petting, begging for food, and talks to me all the time. She purrs as before when I pet her. When I am alone in house, she will follow me everywhere. In fact when she is asleep and I go to another room, she follows me there and sleeps in that room (either for company or being protective!).

She is a maincoon female cat. This will be our first kid and I am pretty sure she will be ok with the baby. She is very gentle with kids of my friends. But I am wondering if anybody else had a similar experience!! I do feel bad that she doesn't come and sit in my lap anymore .

I dont know how far along you are but she will know there is something 'in there'

Remember female cats are very protective of their young, so prehaps she is just staying away from your young incase, like a cat, you get protective over it.

I once had a female cat that loved getting petted, but when expecting would not let anyone near her. It sounds to me that your cat is just being weary of this... she does not want to upset nor offend you.

I am sure once baba is here, and your cat sees you are not going to turn in to the Protector then it will all settle. Just remember and spend time with baby and cat together to allow them to get used to each other and to show your cat that it is ok for her to be around your 'litter'

Animals are very sensitive to scent. Maybe she has picked up on a hormonal shift.

Why she would avoid sitting on you? Trying to give you your space?

She still loves you though
