Thanks for reminding me about the name of the movie “The Driver”. At the time, I was living near where some of the location shots were done, early in the evening in summer. I would walk the dogs & hang out with the neighbors to watch. I don’t remember that movie being very popular at the time.
I was pretty young when “Love Story” was in the theatres, but I remember that it was very popular & a must-see. I didn’t like it because I remember it just didn’t seem real or relatable. I realize now that it was because of McGraw & O’Neal’s very wooden acting style, & even though I was unworldly at the time, I remember thinking to myself, “this is dumb” (in relation to McGraw’s “love is never…” line & several other lines).
I didn’t know about him hitting on his own daughter…he did not recognize his daughter?? Ugh.
What did it for me was when he was busted, along with his son from Farrah Fawcett, for drug possession, I think they were doing cocaine together. That son is a mess, he’s been in a public psychiatric hospital in CA for years. You have to be pretty out of it for that to happen. WTH was going on in his childhood?
