After spending I think it was nearly $700 on the original Kindle, I'm hesitant to buy the first version(s) of an IPhone. I'll continue to read through the threads in this forum, but does anyone know of a cell phone which has internet access to webpages and no contract?
Looks like Walmart has something, but it's gotten some poor reviews, and Amazon has a bunch of phones for sale for .01 but can't really determine if they access the net.
TIA

TracFones will (I'm told), GoPhones, an unlocked GSM phone turned into a GoPhone (buy 100 mb for 20 bucks, or just pay 1 cent per KB).

Do GoPhones and TracPhones have internet access (in other words, you can view webpages)? I haven't seen any that do. Link?

That's what internet access is called, 3G? I'm not up on the terminology (thanks).

Yes, at least GoPhones do, which I use now after over 15 yrs being on contract.
You will use MediaNet at first, till you download a brownser for your phone, but medianet works just fine. I can hit any web page with my phone (but I don't that much anymore).
If you don't mind spending 60 bucks, AT&T has a real decent gophone, it's a Samsung A177, available at discount stores now, and on their web site.

After the $30 airtime card, it's 60 bucks. Discount stores have them for around 75 bucks, including airtime card, which makes it 45 bucks. I bought one to just try out, it's a really decent phone.
It's literaly a Blackberry clone, keyboard resembles my old Bold.
Right now I'm using a Blackberry I bought off Amazon (unlocked refurb, 90 bucks).
Talk, text, GMail, Internet. Everything I need for now.

Looks like the A177 is no longer available.
