I pay for up to 3.0G but I only use about 2.4G each billing period. I only stream video or audio a little. Mostly Wikipedia and email.

If you go over the alotted amount, can you get no data at all until the next billing period, or can you use it but have to pay more?

I use about 2-3 gigs across two lines (wifi at home and work, so really only using a significant amount of data to stream spotify in the car).

If I'm about to go over, Verizon starts texting me. I can either act ahead of time and pay I think $10 by upping my plan (can change it back at any time), or if I actually do go over they'll charge $15 for another gig. I'm not sure if they offer the option to simply cut off data when you hit the limit.

Two lines, share 1 Gig, rarely go past 50% of usage. Most places have wifi, so data usage doesn't get hit all that often.

I thought you're charged for data usage if it's cellular OR wifi.

No.

You can use all the wifi you want. The cell company doesn't know or care about that.

Of course not, the wifi networks don't belong to your cell provider, that can't charge you for using data that isn't theirs.

To answer the OP, I use under 300MB per month, Unless I'm out and about I'm on either home or work wifi.

5 lines here.

The two kids lines are limited to 2 GB each, and run very close to their cap each month (occasionally going over). Once they hit the 2 GB mark, I'm automatically billed $10 for each additional GB that they use.

The other three are unlimited, and use 1-2 GB (my wife), 2-5 GB (mine), and 60-100 GB (hotspot / spare phone used as a modem).

2 lines plus a tablet.

We use 1.25--1.5 gigs/month.
I just bumped it to 3.0 for a bit of headroom, and because ATT offered to cut my bill by $28/month.
I thought about cutting the bill $1.25/month to get 6GB, but just haven't used that much, so I took the larger discount.

I use more wifi than cellular data.

I have 5GB but rarely go over 3. My wife and daughter share 4GB with their i-phones and together use about 2. They are used with wi-fi a lot.
