Hi everyone,

I recently moved back to my hometown of Lexington, Kentucky from Chicago about a year ago and am looking to relocate with my boyfriend to either Charleston of NYC. I always dreamed of living in NYC, but after already experiencing the big city of Chicago and its winters, I think I am pretty much done with cold weather and the hustle and bustle. I visited Charleston last summer and fell in love with it, but want to make sure I am making the right decision to move there. I am 35 and not looking for another college town. I am a pretty laid back low maintenance kind of gal as well and hoping that I can meet some nice ladies that I can get along with. I know there alot of "princesses" in Charleston..I guess that is what I am kind of concerned about. Other than that, I am pretty much sold on moving there. I actually have a few interviews lined up in Charleston over the next few weeks, so I am sure i will have a better idea of where I will stand then. Any feedback though would be much appreciated! Thank you so very much

Ive heard really good things about Mount Pleasant I was looking to maybe live in or near downtown my first year though. Are one bedrooms pretty available in downtown? I was looking to spend around $600-800 a month? Is that asking way too low? Do young professionals live in downtown or is it mainly CoC students? Thank you Capt Rick!

Mt. Pleasant is indeed a nice place to live (clean, good schools, low crime, etc), but it isn't for everyone...and not everyone like it (Rick knows that...he was just being facetious with his statement).

Traffic during the rush is pretty bad, but name any major area that it isn't a bear to get to, or through, during the rush.

There are other nice areas around here besides MtP. Best of luck in your search.

You say you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, but still dream about living in NYC? There is a big difference between living here and vacationing here. Perhaps, you should come down for a longer visit.

I say this because Charleston will not have the same vibe as NYC or Chicago or any large cities. It is much, much smaller - and if you love 'city life,' you will be disappointed. That's not a knock on Charleston - we love living here, but it is not for everyone.

I do love city life, however again I am looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and the cold winters. Charelston seems like it does have a lot to offer as well as far as things i love to do in a city..shopping, restaurants, art, ect...I think I am pretty much sold on charelston since I already experienced the big city of Chicago anyway. I realized I am looking to downsize as far as a city is concerned. I don't think I could even afford to live in NYC anyway, as far as rent and living expenses are concerned.
