and there's several farmers markets all over here where you can buy fresh locally grown veggies, even free range chickens n beef not too far from here too
One point and then I will stay quiet on the subject.
I have been to several farmer's markets around that were selling produce right out of the Sysco (choose your favorite restaurant supplier) boxes.
Know the seller before confidently purchasing organic, or any other value added, products.
I shopped at the Gods Green Acre for a few things a month or 2 ago. According to their website they just moved to the Central Ave. location. I saw a truck for an organic farm pull up as I was leaving. Give them a call and ask about it.
thanks for the heads up man. How funny it is when things open in your town and you don't know!
Carolinagirl1, yes it is unpasteurized and un-homogenized so the cream still rises. And therefore, it still has all the beneficial bacteria in it.
Fearing the worst we saved some yogurt starter from raw milk yogurt on our move here and have successfully made yogurt from store bought "whole" milk and have therefore preserved all of the benefits of the raw milk (in yogurt form).
I add sweetener and a bit of vanilla and make a gallon at a time for the cost of a gallon of milk. Best deal around.
I have seen people bring up the Whole Foods market argument in the summerville vs Mt pleasent war. I kind of kept my mouth shut. But honestly, I would look hard and long at anything listed as organic food, that is packaged and sold in a store. To me a majority of the stuff is a money making gimic.
I would look real hard at the product contents, etc... and think logically about things. Also think how can someone make an extra buck off of stuff. Why not label it differnetly and sell it for more and reap the profits. What is the source. What is the source of the group verifying that something is "good" Are they an independant company, or are they related and profit form this product selling.
Always follow the money.
I'd trust a farmer's market, but I woudl keep an eye that it looked like it came from a local farm.
