Okay guys.....Willow9713 shared a great crime reports web site (https://www.crimereports.com/) and I looked up a few homes that we are considering to rent and the entire Summerville area is plum full of sex offenders. Gotta say.....a bit discouraging considering I've read nothing but great things for the "family" aspect of this community? Anyone have any insight on this? I ran the same scan on my area and only found one or two.....

Thanks in advance.....

Gypsy,

You have to look at the offenses, some people are on there for things that I don't think should be on the Sex offender website, like urinating in public....

Here is the link to the SLED list, it has the details of each crime for each offender: http://www.communitynotification.com...p?office=54575

I agree with OTC. You have to understand the specific offense. Where I used to live I worked with a guy who was arrested for being drunk and urinating on a tree about 50 feet from a school while walking home at 3AM on a Sunday. The law tried to pin a sex offender tag on him since he was near the school. His lawyer got this dismissed, but it was a very expensive party night for him.

I completely agree with you Tom, a person shouldn't have to register as a sex offender for peeing on a tree. Still, Gypsy's question was a valid one. The number seems out of line for a city the size of Summerville, especially when you punch in other cities and look at their numbers. Summerville lists 179 compared to Charleston just slightly higher at 200. But then North Charleston only lists 25 and Mount Pleasant lists 0. I love MP, but I sure don't believe that there isn't a single registered sex offender here. I think the registry is posting some problematic figures.

There are many Sex offenders in MT P as in all areas. There was one on my street but he recently moved. There was one in a neighborhood with in 2 minutes of my house. Unfortunately, they are everywhere. I look often so I know for my kids.

You're exactly right. The SLED site is not accurate. Follow the link provided in the OP and you'll find what ye seek. There aren't nearly as many as in the surrounding areas, but MtP has it's share of offenders.

I agree with the above poster. These list are helpful, but nothing takes the place of parental diligence.
