Mama Browns is not more. Closed up months ago.
We simply weren't impressed with Poe's. Just wasn't our cup of tea...and I felt the nearly baseball shaped burger was a bit odd. Lots of people do enjoy the place. Says something for them.

The competition for restaurants is fierce in Charleston and I've noticed that if a place isn't great, it goes under fast. You can be assured that most of the restaurants, especially those that have been here for some time, are going to offer pretty good food. I read somewhere once that Charleston has more restaurants per capita than any other city...sorry can't remember where that was or I would link it.
We stopped in Charlestons historic district for a couple of days and the whole family really like a restaurant called "Sticky Fingers", great ribs, pulled pork and chicken dishes..
James Island: Mondo's, great Italian place on Folly Rd, La Tabella, another Italian place with steak on Harbor View, Roadside Kitchen (just opened on Folly Rd.)
Those are just a few of the many places on the Island that are very good.
