Seabass, you have your opinions. I'm sure they are true in your world.

As far as sarcastically mocking you...you would know without a doubt if I were doing that.

We are not rich, but can certainly afford to live in Dunes West if we so choose. We've passed on a couple houses behind those gates because they weren't exactly what we wanted. And yes, the $/sq.ft wasn't out of reason.

I am very happy in Mount Pleasant and am trying to set roots in the area. Been here for three years and love it. I'm sure you'll find your place soon. Best of luck to you. Maybe the right town or community will pop up for you.

Of course the term "rich" is going to have different meanings to different people. My idea of being monetarily "rich" is someone who can afford a house more than $200,000 and who can drive a $15,000 (or more) car. But then, I am a public school teacher who has reached her salary ceiling because of my years' experience. I am rich in other ways, however: blessed with excellent health, good friends, loving family, career that I love, and strong in my faith in God. "Rich" is in the eyes of the beholder. Could I afford to live in Mt. Pleasant? No. But then again, I wouldn't want to. Not my cup of tea.

Not being rich, to me, is having a two person household where we each have very average jobs. We aren't rich by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok, I have stayed out of this one for quite a while, but that is preposterous......

My wife and I make north of 100K/yr we can afford to live in a house worth 200K (we choose not to) she is a school teacher and I am a blue collar worker, are we now Monetarily rich, I wish someone would have told me sooner????

I still won't comment on the OP's question, not prudent....

Was wondering OTC how long it would take for you to chime in
Glad to see you did ! Hey, I am still driving that 97, 3,301,207 or whatever it is back and forth and enjoy it OTC.

Anyway... am I rich, YES indeed, I think so.
I/we make less that 100K, the Mrs took time off to spend more time with our 3 yr old. I drive a 12 yr old car and not a classic either. Book value is $3,000 if I am lucky. We live in PW in our own home. If anything happens, we can handle it financially. We did not purchase the 'American Dream'. Purchase a home one cannot afford In fact we sold our home in NYC and purchased a home here at almost 1/2 the price. We live below our means and can sleep at night when the shutters rattle. There is a saying I am blowing... that one can sleep at night when the shutters or the barn door rattles.. since we have our act together and all the bases covered. Is it time for me to get a new car, yes. We just got a 'new' car for my wife... a 'new' used '07 Pilot.. that is 'new' to us. We love our home, it is 3000 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 3 car garage, elevated.. that we were lucky to get on a short sale. People see us living in this particular section of PW and think we are loaded and see our house and continue to think the same. OK.. getting off track... am I rich, hell yeah. I have a loving beautiful wife and a beautiful 3 yr old son and can pay the bills and have emergency back-up.

I posted my opinion on this posting way back in the beginning.. said it would not be good and can only bring bickering and trouble.

And btw, no one gives funny, curious, suspicious looks at my 12 yr old car and my worn out jeans etc. It is ALL GOOD and EVERYONE we have meet has been GREAT. We love it in MP and suspect it is the same in Daniel Island, James Is., Summerville etc.

Let it go people and enjoy Trick or Treating today.. as I will be with my Thomas the Train son later today

That still isn't the route I suggested, mine was I-81 through the Shenandoah valley.....

I said Monetarily rich, spritually and family yes....

Oops sorry OTC.
I think we 'discussed' that route at least, when someone else suggested it. The 81 way just does not fit me right now, sorry. When I travel during the week I avoid DC and hence the route I mentioned it great. But when I went on a weekend earlier this month which I never do I tried the ol' 495 around DC and it was so quiet.. it was eerie.. was driving it last time and 'waiting' for the traffic, construction etc... actually thought I took a wrong turn and was not on 495... turned out great and quick, 13-1/2 hrs time. Leaving this Wed. back to NYC for 1-1/2 weeks but will not 'venture' the 495 way weekday. This 'commuting' should end a few months. Almost went back to NYC this past Thursday, would have been hit with all the snow.. YIKES !! Friends of mine in NJ have no power since Saturday

Gotz ta luv S.C. with no snow or ice... just hurricanes, flooding, skeeters, no see'ums, heat, humidity and gators in my backyard. Gladly take that all vs. NYC. As I always say, the more time I spend here, the more appreciative I am we choose S.C. and Charleston and MP and PW. It is all win-win-win. Am I rich... yup !

Mt P is my place. Despite popular perception, there are in fact poor and lower class communities in Mt P. We are hidden well, but we exist. Im in a condo. And happy because I like the beach.

And I mean this with no offense intended, but if you can afford a house in the gates of Dunes West, you are rich. Thats just a simple fact. Which is great. Lately, "rich" people have gotten a bad rap across the nation as being evil for some reason. Not true at all. Money isn't what makes Mt P people "unique". It's attitude that makes them unique. The town has made a bigger attempt to hide/deny what it really is than any place I've ever lived. We aren't Mayberry. We aren't Beverly Hills. We aren't Stepford Wives. But the town, it's gov't, and many of it's people strive to portray that.
