They feel the tall buildings will block/mar the view of the bridge.

Three more secret projects that Charleston County Development Board is looking at.
Any guesses? The names are; Thor, Phoenix and Gray. Up to 678 jobs, and one project looks like an expansion that's already in place.

150 ft. tall buildings on the edge of Mt. Pleasant. No big deal. Heck that's only 12/13 stories tall. They should be happy that developers want to move to their town. And blocking the view of the bridge is a ridiculous excuse.
One of these days these developers are going to wake up to Charleston and Mt. Pleasant's strict building ethics, not that they are all bad, and go develop North Charleston.
North Charleston would gladly have those buildings as an office park with maybe corporate headquarters moving in from around the countery. They'd also gladly take that cruise terminal too.

They would support really tall urban development in North Charleston as that's not what their vision is for MtP. It would give people a choice, suburban village type living in MtP, high density urban living in North Charleston.

Project Gray developers plan to build a manufacturing and distribution center in Ladson that would hire up to 50 employees over five years who would have average annual wages of nearly $40,000."

50 employees over 5 years? Making an average of $40K? Not seeing the benefit of a tax break for these guys. This is more like a new restaurant than a Volvo or Boeing.

You're right, but unfortunately for Mt. Pleasant they are geographically closer to the actual commercial/urban center of the city from where urbanization is radiating, so they would naturally feel the effects of urbanization much sooner than North Charleston would. The longer Mt. P keeps fighting it the more commercial and economic opportunities this city will lose to places like Nashville.

Anyway, I'd actually be really interested in finding out what the demand for office space is for outside of the penninsula. I'd imagine that the drop-off compared to on the penninsula is dramatic, seeing as companies want cool urban spaces and not office parks.

I don't think MtP cares because that's not the vision they have for the town.

North Charleston is certainly close enough to meet urbanization needs. It's all about building the job centers. Start as close as you can to downtown. Once the first one is establish begin building the next one further North. Large cities may look like they have a single downtown job center, but closer inspection will show they are actually clusters. But that does involve a certain amount of gentrification...

Seems like there are big plans for rail on the peninsula, freight that is, not passenger.
