As long as you don't have trees, buildings, etc blocking the south sky, you should be able to get it.

Keep in mind that AT&T owns Directv now and they're going to slowly, but surely start phasing out dishes and boxes in favor of streaming in the coming years. Directv Now should be coming out soon. I have the current Directv app and it's pretty good and lets me watch live TV and some on-demand on my ipad and iphone.

That doesn't mean satellite TV is done. I'd still get it (and it's not like Directv is just going to blow new HD satellites out of orbit, they're not cheap), they've just stated that satellite TV isn't going to be their primary business focus for the future, but rather internet-based TV.

Still much much better than cable. Yeah it goes out during thick storms, but the customer service alone makes it worth it.

AT&T is trying to phase U-verse out. If you can get it and you want, they'll give it to you, but they're really trying to push new customers to Directv while they focus on broadband and phone.

As AT&T phases out Uverse, folks in apartments will be stuck with Comcrap. Not many complexes allow dishes.

I am fairly sure by federal law a complex must allow satellite dishes but they do have some say as to where erected so you cannot put one where you may want to put it.

Thanks all, for all the info. We were heading in the direction of Direct TV, but in light of the fact that AT&T now owns it, we have more thinking to do. We are not friends of AT&T.

We are just so tired of the crap service Comcast offers, the continual rise in monthly bills, the service cutting off whenever there's a raindrop, and the poor customer service. We've been without TV or internet for 4 days now; just came back on this morning. Hubby has business internet with Comcast, so we'll have to stay with that. Otherwise, we're gone. Just a matter of deciding what we're going to get.

Nothing has really changed since the merger other than AT&T offering free data to Directv customers, and the logo. My family thought about switching over but ultimately stuck with Verizon. But our service, billing, TV, etc hasn't changed.

A federal judge ruled that HOAs can't disallow them, but I'm not sure about apartment complexes.
