Hello good people, My wife and I are considering a relocation to charleston/summerville for a quality of life and weather improvement. Our major concern seems to be the humidity. Can anyone put things into layman's terms as to what it is really like? Thanks, and don't sweat over things.
I am from South Jersey, I have lived here for over 20 years, the humidity still is unbearable in the middle of the day from late may threw early sept. We do all of our outside stuff in the evenings or early mornings.....
ahhhh, the humidity question again...I love to answer this one:
To simulate the humidity here, do the following:
a) preheat your over to 400
b) stick your head under the sink (the goal here is to get your hair good and wet)
c) once preheated, stick wet head into the oven for 5 minutes.
Disclamer: Use extreme caution while performing this! Consult with your Doctor first about any prescription meds that can or may cause drowsiness. We are not responsible for folks setting there hair on fire
d) remove head from oven and waalaa > you have successfully simulated a Summer here in beautiful Charleston SC

This has been a public service announcement
Awesome post, I agree we need a "like" button, but the thumbs up will have to suffice
Okay, what don't people understand about humidity in Charleston? I mean, really? It's hot, it's sticky, and if they are from Florida, they know what that means.
I don't mean to sound rude, but it's right up there with: I want to live somewhere safe with great schools, great weather and high paying jobs, but low taxes, is (insert city/state) for me???
Let me take a shot at this as a realitive newcomer to Summerville/Charleston.
Like others have suggested, the humidity is all based on your point of reference. I grew up in Nebraska, lived in Seattle for 9 years, Texas for 3 years, Michigan for the last 11 years and moved to Charleston in Jan 09. Each place had it's humidity and they are all different. Much like Pokrplr said, the humidity here can be extreme. There were days last summer when I would walk out of work in the late afternoon and the heat/humidity would immediately take my breath away - and steam up my glasses to the point I could not see. It was something new for me, however I knew what I was getting into when I relocated here. Overall, I did not think it was as bad as I was expecting last summer.
However, I did not expect it to be as cold for the last two months or to snow but that is a different post.
