There's a few subd's here that might fit what you're looking for...Linwood Farms, Cherry Grove, Muirfield, Kistler Mill, just to name a few. The Mooresville Graded School district (as of the last school advisory board mtg that I attended in May) is ranked 8th in the state (out of 115 districts). We are the national model for the lap top initiative program, every student from grade 3 on up gets a laptop. We are close to I-77 & I-85 which makes commuting to Charlotte posible. Yes, there's traffic, on Brawley School Rd & Hwy 150. They're the main drags through town. There's plenty of shopping available in the area as well for just about anything a human could possibly need.

I say come check out the quieter side of town. It's a pleasure living here!
Great info, as usual

As I've said many times, I too really like the quieter east side of Mooresville and the quaint little old Main Street!

I can't believe I actually agree w/him, but I like Lumbollo's advice that you rent for awhile to get a feel for the area. I don't know the areas north of Charlotte very well, but the way you described what you are leaving pretty much sums up a lot of Charlotte, in my opinion; especially south Charlotte, so it's good you'll be avoiding that. We had almost a whole thread about the keeping up with the Joneses attitude recently, and a lot of people disagreed on the forum, but I had at least a dozen DMs from people who knew exactly what I was talking about.

All that being said, there is a place for everyone in this city. We found ours in Steele Creek (SW Charlotte), and I'm sure you will find yours on the north end. Take your company's offer to rent for two months and get to know the city!

Great thread, still reading it. I was very happy to read that Harris Village won't be further developed.

There's a house for sale at 114 Burtons Barn Road with nothing behind it.

Quality construction is really important to us. Our home in Cincinnati was poor construction and it showed. Our current home was built by my father-in-law who is considered the highest quality builder in the area.

I don't really expect a real estate agent to tell us if a builder is bad, so I'll need to just research the builders as we find homes to consider.

I just found out about the school redistricting. That throws a monkey wrench into the works.
And a whole new thing that we have to research. Arg.

Redistricting usually only occurs as new schools are opened, and next year only 4 are being opened. If you buy in an established area of Mecklenburg Country your chances of being rezoned are not great at all. In my old neighborhood (sold last fall) the kids had been assigned to the same high school for about 25 years!

I'm not aware of any redistricting going on in Mooresville - hopefully BXRosie will come back and address that for you.

I have been around for four years (from London). I have not found snobbiness to be an issue. I have come acoss neighbours that are reluctant to speak as they simply don't want to intrude. This is how it was in the U.K. Generally, everyone is very friendly even if on occasion you have to be the first to speak. The closest that I have come to seeing an area that could be consisered to have more than their share of pretentious people is Davidson based on some of my conversations with locals there. But it is a college town and that is the way they tend to be. The whole Charlotte area is populated by a majority of people from other paces so it is not easy to label an area or its citizens. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If you are pleasant and accepting, you will not likely see anyone as snobby.

I hope people are nice to my wife. She had a stroke that left her with some issues. She's the same nice, smart person inside but her speech is hard to understand and she has motor issues.

Up here in the midwest all of her "friends" ditched her when they saw that her disabilities were permanent. Everyone shunned her. So I hope she is able to make friends in spite of her condition.

The realtor's name I DM'd you will also tell you what he knows about builders if you ask. He checked out the builder who is building our house now as did we and we were glad we did - he had a great reputation and is living up to that.

My neighborhood is snobby, but you probably couldn't afford to live here anyway...
