Ever since moving within two miles of the railroad, I've wondered about derailments and chemical loads possibly spilling.
I was watching "I Shouldn't Be Alive" one night and it was about a couple of families who lived very close to a freight railroad. Well, there was a derailment and toxic crap spilled out. They could not leave there homes because the main road out was blocked by spillage and they had elderly people to care for. The people called for emergency services when objects in there house started to tarnish right before there eyes
. Paint on the walls started to sweat and certain metal objects were melting. Skin began to blister. Emergency services could not reach them. Eventually they did, but it was about three hours later.
Two people passed away as a result, other people had lung, esophagus damage. Some pets died.
Something to think about. Not necessarily worry about, but think about it.
I'm a firm believer in being prepared. I put together a grab and go bag, in case of emergencies. It contains things such as a change of clothes, flashlight, ready to eat meals, water, first aid kit and cold hard cash
.
