Please talk me out of it.

Just kidding. I was wondering if anyone can tell me their experiences with installing a pool. While I am curious of course as to the costs associated, I realize that every situation is different. My yard has a pretty significant slope and this may hinder our ability to do so or at the very least, increase the cost due to excavating.

I will be probably talking to a few pool contractors in the next week or so just to get ideas and prices. I figure after speaking with them, I will determine if this is feasible or not. I would, however, rather hear an unbiased view of anyone who has gone through this process.

I am leaning towards an inground (of course) salt-water pool. Other than that, I have absolutley no idea what I want.

Thanks in advance.

Salt water is a must. It virtually maintenance-free. I think its pretty much what every builder is using these days anyhow. In my 3 years living in NC with a salt water pool, all I needed to do was put in a few 40lb bags of salt, and the pool was crystal clear.

I used a builder named Independent Pools. Damien the owner was great. He was on site, with his Dad every day. Everything he promised, was delivered.

My brother in law put one in this year and had the same problem with the slope. They(the pool guys) built up a curved wall around the pool, faced with stone and 3 water spouts coming out of it. The pool is not large, I believe around 35,000 gallons but I might be off on that number. The pool with around 450 sq ft of patio made from pavers was right around 32k. He did a lot of shopping around with companes that had high BBB ratings and it came out great.
Oh, and it is salt water.

Would a salt water pool discourage snakes?

Can an existing pool be converted to a salt water pool?

heh - yeah all pools now are either salt water or ozonation... Once you swim in either you wonder why you ever suffered through the old school chlorine pool killing your eyes and skin.

Either system produces the chlorine through a chemical reaction.

Yes existing pools can be outfitted. Probably around $2G, and no, snakes still enjoy swimming in the salt water pools.....as do frogs, lots of em'
