My mom recently moved here from Boise and is seeking nice local bar, pubs, or taverns to go to and meet locals for conversation, etc. She had a nice local pub she attended weekly for a light lunch and a few drinks with other locals before she moved to Charlotte.

She is not interested in Senior Centers, churches, or those retirement centers. Just decent conversation to chat with once in awhile. She is from California and used to the local places for seniors to meet up and have a beer or drink and "share stories." She lives in the Southpark area, but she is willing to look around.

Thank you for any ideas. We found one place off Sharon Amity/Independence today that seemed great. But, apparently they are closing next week after 16 yrs due to the widening of Independence Blvd.

Thanks again,

Debbie O.

I was at Big Ben's Pub in the South End the other day. It was a Tuesday and it was "Trivia Night" Look up Big Ben trivia night on meetup.com. It was full of people of all age groups and seemed a great way to meet people. There seemed to be many seniors and in general, I think this pub has a lot of regulars.
Big Ben's Pub Trivia - Charlotte Trivia Group (Charlotte, NC) - Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/CharlotteTriviaGroup/events/22196631/ - broken link)

Also check out Selwyn Pub - have not been there but always seems lively. It will be difficult at first, not many people go to pubs unless they already know someone. I think that trivia night or similar meetup group may be a way to start.

Default Big Ben

Thank you for your ideas. My mom just likes to socialize in little taverns, like a Cheers type of environment and has made great friends there. She just moved here a couple of months ago and is looking for the same type of place where she can get a lite lunch, couple drinks and go home before dark with other people usually over 60 for chatting.
