I prefer that our trick-or-treaters are our neighbors, not random groups brought in from other areas. Its not about how much candy you haul in, its more about getting out and connecting with other neighbors.
When we lived in Plaza-Midwood, that was an excellent neighborhood for trick-or-treating. Lots of decorated houses! Especially along Belvedere Ave.
Dilworth, especially Dilworth Rd. W between Charlotte Ave & East Blvd, is a great place, too! That whole neighborhood decorates, it's a really big deal over there.

I guess that's how it is ideally, but not everyone lives in a neighborhood that participates as much as some do. When I lived in an apartment complex, I was the only person handing out candy! If I'd had kids there, I definitely would have driven in to a different neighborhood.
I know that Dilworth neighborhood expects folks to drive in to see them! They have really elaborate decorations and people dressed up. They buy lots of extra candy, so they're prepared. Such a fun place!

Agree completely! If you live in a safe neighborhood, then trick or treat there.
This isnt possible for everyone. Not everyone lives in a "neighborhood". If I want my daughter to have that experience, we need to drive somewhere. Otherwise we'd be walking ALOT as the surrounding properties are 10 + acres..

In that case, there are plenty of churches, etc that do trick-or-treat activities she could attend. I know on my side of town they have trick-or-treating at Rivergate shopping center. I'm sure places like Stonecrest and Blakeney have activities going on as well.
You could also just explain to your daughter (if she's old enough to understand) that you don't live in a neighborhood where it's reasonable to go trick-or-treating, and you could have a Halloween party for her little friends instead.

I agree with you %100. I don't want 17 year old gang members trick or treating in my neighborhood, walking around with their underwear hanging out. They can keep that crap in their neighborhood. With this said, if you can't trick or treat in your own neighborhood, go to your close family's neighborhood. We take our son to his grand mother's neighborhood in Cameron Woods, but that's ok because 80 percent of the locals know who we are.
I hate losers that truck their rude, often in-bred, kids into my neighborhood. I like giving candy to the kids that live near me. The deal is to entertain the neighborhood kids, not hand out free candy to future miscreants.
