We got rain and once for a few minutes everything went out except electricity--telephone, cable were gone. Sophialee, bless your little heart, you don't go outside during a thunder storm. You could have been killed. Channel 14 reported more than 800 lightning strikes in Union County. I wonder if some of you may have had a small twister. What you are describing sounds like when the tornado came through Mineral Springs in the late 70's. I heard emergency vehicles go by about 4 times. Anybody know why?
I know I shouldnt've went outside in it, but it's a covered porch and I was huddled next to the door..it was pretty scary though! I won't do it again.
I heard the emergency vehicles too. We were w/out power till 3:30am so maybe some lines went down? Or wait, are the power lines under the ground down here? I can't remember.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a small twister. One minute the wind was whipping one way then all of a sudden it changed direction and there was some hail. Our power went out for a few hours. I love thunderstorms, but that one scared me.

I've heard mini-tornado, microburst, etc. All seem to fit has the winds were around 60+mph...several big uprooted trees in the woods (clay clinging to the roots and all)...I was tempted to go outside but it reminded me of the beginning of "War of the Worlds" when the aliens were zapping people...
per accu-weather's radar, the thunderstorms were extremely isolated. Majority of Union County (monroe & east) didn't get the violent weather I got.
