You could also take Eastway to Central... Central is hardly ever backed up because everyone takes Monroe or Independence.
I tried Eastway to Central one day and it was worse than 74 (may have just been that particular day). I have cut through Plaza Midwood and then hit Central closer to the city, which is not terribly bad except for all the stop signs.

I live in Matthews, which I consider the burbs.

I live around East Meck HS and in 2 or 3 lights I can see the skyline so I don't want to feel like it's the burbs even though it is...
