You will easily find a home in the south Charlotte or western Union county areas within your price range. I agree with the neighborhoods suggested; you will have other options as well depending on what you are looking for in a home or a community.

BTW, it is Ardrey, not Audrey
Best of luck to you!
Thank you for the correction! I can't believe I made that mistake - it's my favorite neighborhood around here!
My husband will not be in any one spot with his job. He will be traveling all over Charlotte and surrounding areas visiting hospitals. It is more important for us to be close to our childrens schools. I have heard good things about Saint Mathews but does anyone have any advice about the catholic elementary schools? Thanks
The only thing to keep in mind about St. Matthews, whether you're referring to the school or the parish, is that it's huge. I believe it's the biggest parish in the state, and definitely the biggest Catholic elementary school in the area. I've heard many people whose kids went to the other Catholic schools that when they got to middle school, St. Matthews families overwhelmed everyone else in terms of PTA, sports, and of course influence within the schools themselves. Not neccesarily a bad thing, but something to consider. If you're used to a smaller school where all of the families know one another, you may not be happy there. We used to go to Mass there when we first moved to the south side of the city, and I quickly found the congragation and the Masses were way too big and impersonal.
There's only one Catholic Church in Charlotte that I wouldn't feel at home in and that's St. Ann's. Just a little too old school for me.
According to its web site, there are 650 kids at St. Matthew's but none of the others specify. I just know it's the biggest. Smaller than any of the area public schools but still pretty big. I know people who have their kids in St. Gabriel's and St. Patrick's and love the schools and the churches. And I do know plenty of people who love school and church at St. Matthew's. Didn't mean to imply otherwise. Just giving you some perspective.
I think your information is great. I just spoke to a friend who also recommended St Gabes and St Patricks so I am starting to broaden my search from just South Charlotte. Do you know anything about neighborhoods closer to downtown like Myers Park, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Eastwood, Cotswold and SouthPark. Are these neighborhoods good for families with young kids?
The neighborhoods you mention above are my favorites (not familiar with Eastwood) - for families too. You'll get less square footage there, but they are beautiful older homes. I know several families happy with st Pats and st Gabe. Everything is close including family friendly amenities uptown like Discovery Place.
All of these are good, though its spelled Ardrey. All convenient to St. Matt's.
Oops, missed page 2, already corrected. It is a great neighborhood
