although I can't stick up for SK's post(s), I feel some of the other posts should fall into that category, as you clearly stated you had your out of state license:

Holler, to be honest - from the way you titled your query - it made it sound like you were asking for all newcomers to rebel against the road tests here in NC b/c they were unusually difficult or it was a ridiculous proposal to ask someone with a current license from another state to do.

Just sayin' . . .

Holler...some of the responses did seem snippy and not sure if I missed something but I don't see why... anyways, if you study the handbook the test is not hard at all. Pay attention to the signs because you will take an eye exam and part of that is identifying the signs by shape. Definitely do a thread search as suggested by others and you'll get more info but as long as you study a little bit you will do fine! You won't need to take a road test since you already have a license.
Good luck!

If you happen to have a CDL, you don't take the written or road test.

For the rest of us, the written really is quite simple. I was nervous going in since it had been so many years since I'd taken the test but passed it without studying.

Good luck!

No road test for me coming from Maryland, but I had a clean driving record and no medical conditions of concern.

Agreed. "Transplants unite!" has an "us against them!!!!!" sound to it. Simply calling it "Road test necessary for NC license" or whatever, with the pertinent info, would not have sounded so "on the offensive", which may have put others on the defensive.

You're in the South now, relax a little

Holler, next time try a search. There was a thread on this exact subject within the last couple weeks.
You've got to be on your toes to pull this off properly. For some reason "road test" seems to be scattered through the regional forums even though this is an NC question.

So if doing a search on something that isn't regional I guess it's best NOT to search the NC forum but instead search NC and below. Thankfully this is the default option under Advanced Search.

Often Google will pull up C-D threads on top of its search results too.

Meanwhile I can't find a thread I was on months ago so maybe I shouldn't be talking

holler wasn't questioning ani, he/she was questioning SK, which should put a different twist on your 'intellectual' comment.

If you cant handle any of the tests then I question your desire to drive on NC roads.
The road test is simple and it up to discretion of the officer.

I answered the question the OP asked in bold giving the five things the OP asked and posted a link to where to find it in handbook.
I also added my opinion was misconstrued. Im sorry for it being taken wrong way.
