I think MissGeorgia has a degree in advertising, but no real experience in the field.
I don't remember whether I replied to her original post or not . . . but I remember this b/c I was thinking . . . oh my. Another marketing/advertising/communications degree . . . and no jobs in this city unless you create one for yourself. Freelancing, or set up your own company. Then it becomes a matter of seeking and securing clients, something I have found difficult here. My clients are basically from outlying areas and other states. I don't think I posted originally b/c I do not have very positive info to pass along (too many folks with experience in those fields who are out of work, have been laid off, or who are struggling to work from home).
I believe she had some other administrative assistant skills, but seeing as how I know two paralegals who have accepted jobs considerably below their previous employment doing admin asst jobs . . . and knowing that I have another friend who is as professional as they come -- has about 20 years experience in admin asst (to CEO/partners) positions . . . and can't find a job for nearly a year . . . I think it must be very tough out there in that field, as well.
I just hate to be discouraging and people seem to resent it, even tho I am just passing on the word on the street.
Seems there are some openings for such things as biochemists and engineers (sounds more like Raleigh! I know! But that is what I am hearing!).
That's crazy talk! It just amazes me how expensive it is to live in North Carolina(gas, taxes, etc) and how terrible about 70% of the jobs pay! Just blows my mind literally.
The cost of living isn't high here, in my opinion. Also, our opinions of poverty is likely different.
