We have enough colleges in the region (Charlotte, Triangle and SC to make use of the structures that would be built for certain events.
Is it a long shot? Sure... but its not impossible when you add 11 years to the equation. A lot of people who say its a pipe dream probably said the same thing about the DNC. Its not like the Olympics would all take place inside of 485.

But there was no suggestion that we stop talking about ATL Olympics relative to Charlotte's bid. There is a difference.
If you want to bring the DNC into this, then I will point out that it failed at the stated reason for bringing it Charlotte. That is to keep NC a Blue state. As we know, it failed on that one. This should be a lesson, since you brought it up, that wild claims for the reasons to bring an event to an area, often don't come true.

Again how can you talk about something and compare when the info your argument is based on why Charlotte should not have Olympics, when some of you have been incorrect about how the Olympics went over?How can fabricated tales help Charlotte make a well thought out decision about what to do?
You are making this about "one upping" Atlanta by talking about how many colleges you have in the Region.!Thats NOT the point.
Have you been to Atlanta?Does not sound like it.The colleges that we are talking about are all in a compact area of each other and within easy access to transit(MARTA).All within Downtown and Midtown.

But come on man, you just can't compare the DNC to the Olympics. The DNC is more noted for being a high profile event, but in terms of actual tourist impact, it's not really all that high; it only attracted 35,000 visitors and just needed a handful of venues. The Olympics attracts over half a million people over 2-3 weeks and needs many more venues and hotel rooms, and that's just for starters. To be generous, say that that part gets figured out and more hotels are built. There's no way the transportation network will be up to par in 11 years, and honestly it might not be ever with LRT as the mode of rail-based transit as opposed to HRT.

But the Winter Olympic games aren't near as big and don't attract near as many people either. They also are more spread out as most events require being in a large more natural atmosphere (sledding, skiing, etc..)

Hmm. SLC made far more money than the Olympics in ATL. However this theory about HRT being a requirement is nonsense. The 1984 Summer Olympics, no doubt the most successful Olympics in the USA since the 1980s, were held at the time when Los Angeles had no rail transit system. Yet these games are very highly regarded, unlike some that followed.
I think Charlotte will be fine if it chooses to hold the Olympics. I hope it doesn't because I think the whole thing is nonsense, but if this city and state decides to pursue it, it has shown that it can pull these sorts of things off.
