The writer implies; the reader infers, as a matter of clarification. You said someone was
killed.
Killed means a direct action from an outside influence was brought upon the victim, implicitly causing their demise. Although a civil suit could be filed, in criminal court it is nearly impossible to prove fault in a death as a result of an existing medical condition. If someone assaulted the deceased, that may be a different story.
A friend is an attorney. We discussed a similar situation last year after some crime show brought up "scared to death" as a reason to indict for homicide.
