Elected to have Lowes do our flooring project. They were to remove existing carpet and hardwood and replace with Bamboo. Project begun July 2. Multiple heaves in the floor, which was not flat, plus multiple gouges in vertical moulding and baseboards. Several feet of wallboard stripped of its paper with gouges into the gypsum. Customer Service contacted and stated they would rectify problems. About 75% of floor redone which utilized several boxes of flooring that were to be returned for credit. Over the ensuring 15 weeks the vertical moulding was replaced and repainted. The painting was less than satisfactory with globs of of caulking exposed and wavy paint lines, even paint on our ceiling. The wall was repaired but now has no overlying paper. This was performed by the installers "crew." Since the entire interior of the house was repainted in April 2013 their job was unacceptable. Another contractor was required to finish the job.
Lowes stated they would compensate us for the "Aggravation Factor" and the inconvenience.
Thoughts on what it should be or is Legal Action required?
We can't dispense legal advice so I highly suggest you seek an attorney and see what you can do. I have had Lowe's install a few things for me over the years and have been very happy with their service. Sorry you had such a bad experience! Sounds like the local Lowe's here have to examine more closely the companies they are sub-contracting out for Installation Services! (they aren't Lowe's employees but local companies that does work for Lowes)
What do you think fair compensation for "aggravation" should be in this case? You should have a number/action in mind if you are already considering lawyering up.
We have had a couple of jobs done by Lowes contractors and have been very pleased. On the other hand, we had Home Depot do a carpet job in another house. We paid for upgraded padding and learned years later that cheap padding had been put down, which contributed to the wear and tear. For this and other reasons, we will never shop Home Depot. Besides, Lowes in NC company and we like to be loyal to state owner and run businesses if we can.
