I was born in Cleveland, OH but raised German. There were several circles of fun-loving German-born/speaking friends that we socialized with and had many many parties with. Surely there must be a circle of lively Germans in the Charlotte area, over 75 years young, for my DAH-ling "Tsa Tsa Gabor-type" mom to meet? She currently lives in Florida but is finally considering moving closer to family.

My dad's gf is German and so is a close friend of my gf's family. The Waldhorn restaurant near Carolina Place mall has a German club that regularly meets on Sundays (a bunch of old Germans). Their website is www.waldhorn.us and their Oktoberfest is coming up too.

Hi there~ I used to work at a salon in Dilworth and we had several regulars that fit your description. They mostly seem to live in Myers Park and they love to get their hair and nails done! LOL. Good luck!

Don't forget CMS has a language-immersion magnet school where German is taught. If your mom likes kids she might contact them to see if they could use a volunteer: Smith Academy of International Languages : Welcome!

There is a German speaking Club Alemannia Society of Charlotte-German Club (I am the Webmaster) or the German-American Club of Charlotte that meets the first Sunday (4 pm) of the month at the Waldhorn.

Hi,
I was also raised here, but born in Germany and speak German. My mother just moved in with us, also from Florida. She is a true blue German... 80 years old, very active and social... very lonely and shut in right now. SHe is for the first time without a car and hates it... she's been here 6 months but has had no real opportunities to make friend.
I would love to get our moms together, see if they can stand each other! LOL!!!
Let me know!
Adriana
