Hello all, new to the area. Wondering how the commute is to airport area for training for a new job by taking Park Rd. to Woodlawn which turns into Billy Graham? Does this get super backed up? Also, what is that area about along Woodlawn/Billy Graham in terms of living there? Thanks
That is the most direct and shortest route to the airport from the Park Rd/Woodlawn Rd area. Depending on the time of day will determine how backed up it gets. Since Woodlawn (Billy Graham Pkwy) connects to I-77 and I-85, yes it can be very busy. I live in the SP area and often have flights between 2pm-5pm. The worst of the traffic is coming from I-77 the later you get so I generally don't have any problems since I am going against the main flow. If you had an early flight, say around 7-8am, you would probably need to give yourself an extra 15 minutes or so.
Personally, I wouldn't live on Woodlawn just because it's such a busy 4 lane road, most of it without a middle turn lane (welcome to Charlotte). Areas north and south of Woodlawn are just fine but can be pricey depending on the neighborhood. I cannot think of any places to live right on BGPkwy but there are some apts on Tyvola Rd not far from S Tryon and Woodlawn. They are probably OK but again, I would not live in that area, but that's just me.
