I haven't paid for a haircut in more than 25 years!
Instead I paid $150 dollars for a professional-grade, Oster, Hair Clipper, a set of, 'Guide Combs', two cutting blades, and a pair of barber's scissors. About once a month I set up a large front-to-back mirror, and cut my own hair.
My wife is amazed at how well I do on the back of my head; but, hey, behind-the-head skill comes with practice; and, while I was learning, the mistakes simply grew back in! After more than 2 decades of cutting my own hair I'd have to say that my Oster Hair Clipper is some of the best money I ever spent! (I use both the, '00000' and, '#1.5' cutting blades.)
Yeah wish I could cut my own hair but don't think I can do it unless I was getting a buzz cut. I was wondering if there are any proper barbers (old style barbers with the candy stripe barbers pole) in South Charlotte area.
I cut my own hair as well. It was a useful skill to have when I was unemployed out of college and low on cash. Now, I could easily afford to have it cut elsewhere without much fuss, but I do it on my own anyway. Usually only once every 9 months.
Female: I used to go to the Aveda School where I would get multiple services with a total of $36 (a steal for what nice salons upcharge for long, curly, thick hair)
Now I volunteer for hair shows where they do cut and color for free.
@Shovad, perhaps try The Art of Shaving at the mall. They might not do the exact style you are seeking, but they could maybe give you information on where to go?
Male (felt it necessary since womens and mens haircuts are drastically different) -- $40 + tip at emerson joseph
If you pay $40 plus for a haircut you must have more money than you know what to do with. Why on Earth would you pay that much for a haircut when one can get it cut for less than half that at dozens of places. There is no way that place does that much of a better job.

I guess because I can? I like the environment and service, and yes, spending $40 doesn't really worry me... not sure it's really your business how I spend my money .
