As the new apartment/condos are being built in uptown, I would imagine the uptown area to see an increase in weekend day activity over the next 5-10 years.
In NYC you are in the city when you go there. In a place like Charlotte or Atlanta you don't go to the city. You go to the subs of these type cities. I wish it was like NYC but, nothing's up there unless you work up there or have an event.
I know people live up there but they must sit in their apartments and talk about how cool it is to live in the city and then get in their car and drive somewhere to go do something.
That is not totally accurate. I would bet that a lot of people that live downtown Clt also work downtown, go to restaurants very often downtown, and go to bars downtown. I would also bet that, in NYC, people that live in Manhattan also work in Manhattan and go to restaurants and bars in Manhattan.

I think he was more so talking about shopping. People in Manhattan do shop in Manhattan. There are only a few cities down south that has shopping in there downtown.
Just spent a long weekend in Charlotte and had a few questions. It's a really beautiful city and I enjoyed my time there very much.
What's the deal with light rail tickets? Does anyone ever actually check them? I bought tickets two days and it felt like a waste of money. Also, does it get really crowded during the commute? I only used it off hours but it didn't seem like there was very much seating.
Is it always so quiet? Maybe I'm just used to Philadelphia but it was very eerie to walk around and be able to hear my own thoughts.
Has there been a recent economic explosion there? Everything seemed brand new. The city looks like it was built yesterday, especially all those new complexes along the light rail on the south end. I also liked how the skyline seemed planned.
Is there always so much traffic on 77?
Do bars near the stadium serve alcohol before noon on Panther game days? I was under the impression that they legally could not, but I got to a place right around noon and it looked like quite a few people already had drinks in hand. On that note, is there any chance of blue laws changing our going away in NC in the not too distant future?
1. I have no idea on light rail tickets.
2. Its only quiet on Sundays, its more noisy then Philly on Saturdays usually, uptown is generally quiet when its not rush hour or in the morning.
3. And the city is currently going through a small 'economic explosion', a major one happened in 2009.
4. You should see 77 during black Friday, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, Christmas, or New Years Eve.
5. Uptown Charlotte mainly only serves upper class winery and champagne. (where the panther stadium is)
Here are a few buildings under construction in uptown Charlotte right now, just to name a few, you wouldn't tell there under construction, they just started-
1. Tryon place 27 floors (awaiting anchor tenant)
2. 300 South Tryon 25 floors (multi-use)
3. 210 Trade 20 floors (hotel)
4. Portman office tower 19 floors (construction begins june 2015)
5. The bearden 32 floors (apartment)
Location: The place where the road & the sky collide

The sale of alcohol before noon is illegal on Sundays in NC. Obliviously people tailgate prior to games so they are probably bringing their own drinks that they brought from home. The law probably won't change anytime soon.
Oops, I was thinking Pittsburgh, probably not Philadelphia considering its like 30 mins from New York City.
Charlotte can have worst traffic, as you heard the OP thinks our highways are full of traffic while our city limits are quiet.

Wrong again. Philadelphia is 100 miles from NYC. I worked in Philly for decades. Explain to me how the traffic is in Charlotte compared to Philly. You want to pretend that you know, so you tell me, & I'll tell you if you're right. Go ahead, Ace. Start telling us.

Huh? What are you even talking about?
You know, Prohibition and Sip, those high class wineries...
