My husband and I live in Phoenix, AZ and plan to visit Charlotte this coming year since we are considering moving there. I noticed that air ticket prices at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport are consistently high. Does anyone have any advice as to when the cheapest time of year to fly there would be, or how to find lower priced airfare? We have thought about flying in to a different airport and then driving to Charlotte, but airfare seems about the same in Raleigh and other major NC cities. Any advice would be appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the cheapest airfare I've come across so far is at least $500 per person.

Did you price Greenville/Spartanburg in SC? That would be closer than Raleigh.

No, I haven't! I am not too familiar with what airports are nearby in other states, but I will definitely check it out now per your recommendation. Thank you!

It also depends what days you check. Wednesdays are less expensive to purchase tickets. It's less expensive to fly Tues-Thursday. Just some hints.

Just checked to Greenville, SC and it's $340. We're not too far from Charlotte, maybe an hour and a half to two hours. You could visit downtown Greenville, SC as well while you are here. You won't be disappointed.

Look at Greensboro also if you do not mind the drive about the same distance as Greenville and sometimes is cheaper.

If you looking for cheap airfare to and from Charlotte, forget about it...Charlotte Douglas Int'l Airport is not known for affordable ticket prices.....Believe that.

You might want to try Columbia, SC also. Every now and then you can find a decently-priced ticket in and out of CAE.

It looks like the first 1/2 of December is a bit cheaper. Many airlines offering flights from Phoenix to Charlotte for $400-$410 round-trip.

Hmmm, you just have to keep monitoring them because the other day I saw flights for $359. Checked today and everything was more than $500.
