I read somewhere that HOV's are no charge. Is that still true? (HOV=2 or more occupants)

They’re still planning on opening “the majority of it†by the end of 2018 - ‘A majority’ of the I-77 toll lanes will open on time. But some parts will be late.

Seems the NCDOT has basically admitted that they are partly to blame by adding work to the project.

I feel like I always read articles about road construction delays in the winter, not just I-77, due to “difficulty of paving when it’s cold.†Well duh, is that not planned for from the beginning?

They definitely should fine them the $10k/day. This thing is way behind and it looks like they still have a lot of work to do on the part south of the 85/77 interchange. Plus the NCDOT could probably use that extra money right about now with their budget issues.

Fine the crap out of them. It's not like they can blame a wet summer for being this far behind. It's also pretty convenient the tolls lanes are nice and smooth and it's the free lanes that are a total disaster right now. There should have been a clause that they cannot start collecting tolls until the project is totally complete.

I'd like to know what is going on with the Blythe I-85 project in Concord and Kannapolis. Seems like it has just stopped. I'm guessing state funding for the year has been depleted and they are waiting for the new year to start bleeding us again. Still a work zone conveniently so, I'm sure the gov is making good money on speeding tickets through there.

I am curious if the toll lanes are meeting their projections.

I'm amazed that I don't see more people in the toll lanes. I don't drive it everyday but considering most of the congestion can be condensed between exits 23-28 or so, I'm pretty sure I've probably saved a half hour a couple times for like $2 or $3. Most people's time is worth more than $5/hour.
