Myrtle Beach is a place that you visit but not a place you want to live. If you want to be very close to the beach then I would recommend Wilmington. Otherwise I would put Charlotte easily over the other 2.
I would suggest watching the show Mryle Manor on TV, thats a very accurate description of Myrtle Beach. : )
Now that's just a ridiculous statement. There are many terrific single family homes, subdivisions, condo communities and other housing all over the area that differ greatly from the image that show portrayed.
MB is a great place for retirees, cheap COL, pleasant enough weather. We moved here 18 months ago for my job, but plan to leave next June after our daughter graduates HS. There's not a whole lot to do here, culturally. Charlotte definitely offers more in that area, but still doesn't appeal to me (I love the Dilworth area though, very cute). The downtown, or Uptown, seems rather quiet, and the light rail could use some expanding. We are city people, so our perceptions are biased. I agree with all the other poster's, there is no comparison between the two.
Myrtle Beach saw its better days...many years back. I would not live in Myrtle Beach for a FREE oceanfront condo...no way Jose! Do not even visit that place.
Wrightsville Beach & Hilton Head are much nicer & much classier!
After being carjacked, robbed & held hostage for about 2 hours in 2001....YES there is crack, crackheads & tons of drugs in Myrtle Beach. Was carjacked & robbed at 501 & 17 Business in broad daylight in the heart of run down downtown Myrtle Beach.
New Yorkers used to move to Florida, and Atlant, Ga., but then it became overcrowded and expensive. Next, they began moving to Myrtle Beach, but that has slowed way down. I do not believe it had to do with prices and overpopulation, in Myrtle Beach. Does any one knows why? And the latest I hear, they are going now to Charlotte, NC. Just wondering.
I lived in Myrtle for 6 months and Charlotte for 6 months. Myrtle is touristy and professional jobs are limited. I was lucky to work for a builder in NC although I had to travel to work 40 miles one way.
Comparing Charlotte to Myrtle is like comparing apples to oranges. Charlotte is a city with suburbs and Myrtle is town surrounded by towns. It depends on what you are looking for.
