I can not find in my Subdivision bylaws anything about how far off the property line you are allowed to put up a fence. I thought I was told you needed to be at least 6 inches off the line.
Does anyone know ??
And know where I can get the info to prove it?

Thanks in advance!

A lot of places recommend 6 inches , to make sure your fence does not encroach on another's property.

However if you ask the neighbor nicely you may be able to put it straight down the middle as has been done several times where I live.

It has nothing to do with Meck. county bylaws, you cannot place the fence on somebody else's property without permission.

That's why a survey can be invaluable later on, if a bit costly now!

We are having that issue now with the neighbor's fence set 8 feet in of my property. We sent them registered letters but they won't sign for them.

I don't want to create a hostile situation but it has to come to that, oh well.

Smile Neighbor's Fence

If the neighbors fence is on your property by 8 feet, then that's not the neighbors fence any more. It's your fence!

Well that's the kind of thinking that will get you into trouble fast. This type of situation can get murkey very quickly, and is the reason no action should be taken without the consultation of a lawyer.

No it's true...consult a lawyer. If a fence is on your property for more than a year, it's your fence. You can do with it what you wish.

No, that's not correct. You need a lawyer to make that happen, it's not automatic.
