You and me both. I get so itchy this time of year. I LOVE football. In fact I feel like toss one around now.
Well by hook or crook I'm going to root for the Panthers, up or down, I'll force myself. I'll see you guys back in September crying in my beer if things don't go well

I will never understand why so many people move here and refuse to support our teams. If you love where you came from so much, why do you leave? I'm just curious. The Panthers, Bobcats, Checkers, etc. bring money to our local economy. Why is it so hard to give them some love? I wonder if the Panther fan base will be really strong until the kids who are growing up rooting for them get older and have kids to carry it on. Everyone seems to glom on to whoever they've always rooted for instead of changing teams. I always loved the Cowboys but would never cheer for them over the Panthers. Oh well. I'll be cheering for them!
I won't hold your love for the cowboys against you lol, just kidding
Seriously, I also believe in supporting the home team when possible, and it's okay to still root for the childhood team you grew up.
It a day right before the season starts that you can go down to the stadium and watch them practice and they have good sales (well as good as your gonna get on NFL stuff) in the store. If you get close enough to the railing, the players come by and give autographs. My son has Jake, and several others that signed his football. It's a lot of fun. Hotter than Hades usually but fun. You can also go to Spartanburg and watch them. It's easier to get autographs there. Hubby is going to take our son there this year too.

Here's a link to the info. It's on Aug. 2 this year. Panthers.com
Wow, that's really great, thanks! I'll check it out!
Much to Austinsmom's chagrin, I will not leave the area.
I've been a Dallas fan for years and years (and I've never lived in Big D). In our house, it's the Boys, the Colts, & the Steelers, and then we root for individual matchups (like anyone playing against the Pats, Redskins and Ravens).
I like to cheer for the underdog if I my teams aren't involved in a game. Believe it or not, I used to like the Panthers when they first joined the league, but they never captivated me enough to stick with them over the years. I still like to pull for the Texan's since they're still the new kids in the league.
Here's to a new season and good luck to your favorite team!!!

Srsly?
You think I should stay in Detroit because I love the Tigers and Lions and Pistons? Um, no. My company opened up a branch here, and I met a woman here who I intend to marry. The economic future in Detroit is less than bright. But I grew up watching & rooting for the Detroit teams and living or dying with each win or loss. I know the players and the history and have been to the old stadiums and the new stadiums and seen the bad times and the good times. They are a part of me, and I'm unlikely to switch allegiances due to a geographic move. What kind of fan would do that?
I won't root against Carolina teams (except when they play Detroit teams, of course). And I will support them. I've already been to a Knights game and a Bobcats game. (Of course, the Bobcats game was against the Pistons and the Knights against the Tigers' affiliate, Toledo. ) And on November 16th, I plan on being there to watch the Panthers play the Lions. Support them? Sure. But I'll never love them like I love Detroit teams.
It boggles the mind that this would seem strange to anyone. I mean, they're my teams. Always have been. How could I possibly just change that?

You're kidding, right? This is the mentality I don't get. There are different people on the team each year. It's not like it stays the same. You find out who is on the team in your new area and you pull for them. Then you keep adjusting when players come and go. How hard is that? That's what my husband and I did. And my husband was the biggest Redskins fan you ever saw when I met him. He owns Panther stuff not Washington b/c they are our team. He said he was going to support the home team and we love our Panthers!
The problem is that Charlotte and the surrounding area is such a melting pot of people who have moved here and they won't support the local teams b/c they are committed to the teams they've always pulled for. Our teams fuel our economy so I don't care how long you've pulled for another team. If you live here, you should try to show real support to our team. No one will ever change my mind about that.
Yeah, I don't see changing because you move either... you can support the home team, but you don't have to be a fan of them....
I went to college at Auburn - I'll always be an Auburn fan, no matter where I live...it's the the same for pro teams for most people...People are fans and stay true to that team. How is that difficult to understand?
