My husband and I recently went through the same search for a gun. My hands are very small, and it was challenging to find something that both of us were comfortable with. We have actually chosen the new Smith & Wesson .9mm military and police model. First, it has an adjustable hand grip. There are several inserts for the grip that size it for a smaller or larger hand. I personally think it's very comfortable in my hand, and my husband likes it as well.

What is the process for purchasing a shotgun/rifle in NC? I have a handgun purchase permit but obviously there is a distinction. What do I need to do?

Yes, those inter-changeable grips are, well, handy. Glad you found something comfortable. For others looking for that type of grip, the (my favorite maker)Sig Sauer P250, Heckler and Koch P30 and P2000 all have the grip inserts. There may well be others, but these are off the top of my head.

I'm sure your S&W M&P will be a great gun, but I'm not really a fan of there semi-auto's, but love the S&W revolvers.

No permit required for shotgun purchase. Use your single handgun permit to purchase multiple rifles in the same sale.

Get your CCW and never need a permit to purchase again.

Get a Remington 870 or Mossberg 590. You'll be good to go.

I've got my eye on a Mossberg 500 Tactical Cruiser for home defense.
