I've heard of 10 gauge shotguns, but I don't know if they're still produced anymore.

I think steve was referring to you with this quote :

In my opinion, the way that you'll be able to distinguish good advice from people getting macho'ed up and pounding their chest about their gun knowledge...
Yes, my Mossberg may be called Tactical Persuader, and I admit that the term "tactical" gets tossed around loosely, but it doesn't take away from the effectiveness of the firearm. My 500 holds 5 + 1, has collapsible shoulder stock, holds 5 in the side saddle, and can be equipped with whatever you want. For $300, I don't think it's "bs" and you can't find a better weapon for home protection.

I like the combination of the stock and pistol grip, carolina_guy. For the record, when I wrote "tactical bs" I meant something like this...

You could certainly get a 10 gauge for the home.

I hear ya. I agree that some people can get carried away. The only thing I'd add to mine, which for now it is what you see in the pic I posted, is to add a sling, one light, and keep a scope on standby for the $h*t hit the fan scenario and we have to hit the woods. Never know when a buck is grazing 150 away. Of course, I'd rather use a 10/22 because of less noise from discharge, but I don't have one yet.

I've got a 12 gauge, a .410, and a .22 all of which I inherited. I don't claim to have a lot of knowledge of guns, they just don't interest me much.

By my "macho" quote, I meant there are folks out there that like to tout how much they know (I guess this goes for everything) about guns rather than giving a completely unknowing person any shred of usable advice. Someone may be a huge fan of a Desert Eagle and can repeat the dimensions of every piece of the weapon and know every ballistic specification for the rounds...it doesn't make it a good recommendation for someone looking to buy a home defense weapon to use with the their wife. Catch my drift?
