There's plenty of other stuff to do uptown. It isn't just offices and bars. It's home to one of the best science museums in the country, Discovery Place, has Levine Museum of the New South, Mint Museum of Craft and Design, two theatre buildings with 4 stages (5 if you count Actors Theatre of Charlotte on the outskirts of uptown), TWC Arena for concerts and sports, the Charlotte Trolly and Lynx to connect you to shopping in South End (that's where the shops are mostly). With Epicentre up and running and ther NASCAR HOF arriving soon, that's only going to bring more business uptown. It's difficult right now though since the pace uptown has the highest occupancy rate of any downtown in the country (99%) and the rent is so high that most people can't afford it to just run a succesful boutique or even a department store.

I'm not really into mall and chain store shopping. Don't get me wrong they are great for everyday stuff but when going into the city I love specialty type of shops.
That is one reason I so enjoy Blowing Rock, Boone, Banner Elk, etc . . . neat specialty shops. Asheville has some fun areas, too. I love the market in Charleston, too, but wow, so hot and humid this time of year . . . There are boutiques around Charlotte, too. It would be neat to start a thread on cute, fun, different shops and boutiques around Charlotte. Like a shopping "map."

Great idea about starting a thread. I love the market in Charleston but I will wait until it's a little cooler. When we lived there many moons ago, I went at least twice a month. I liked Boone too. I will check out the other areas too. Thanks.
