My wife and I currently live in Indian Trail, but we are looking at moving to Eastern Gaston County or Fort Mill area in the next year. We have been in Indian Trail for over 2 years and it has worked out well for us. I may be working in Gastonia, and the 50 mile drive each way from Indian Trail isnt going to work. My wife works in the South Park area, so it isnt as bad for her. We are looking for a 4/5 BR house with 2 BA and about 2500 SQ FT. Our current house is 3BR/2BA and about 1300 SQ FT. Our ideal price range is about $200,000. We probably could afford more, but we dont want to go overboard. It seems like Belmont is a good prospect?! Any suggestions , feedback, or advise is welcome...

Look in Gastonia. There are some beautiful homes there. Look around Hudson & Robinwood. There are also some very nice homes in the vicinity of Crowders Mountain, but I think that the Hudson/New Hope/Robinwood area is more what you're looking for & is closer to the majority of the shopping. Either is close to exits for I85.

Belmont is a great community.

The schools in Eastern Gaston County are pretty good, but many consider the Fort Mill schools better. You will also find much lower property taxes in Fort Mill (SC in general has much lower property taxes than NC, and Gaston County is one of the highest tax rates in the Charlotte metro area).

We are in the preliminary stages of researching both those locations. Fort Mill is also an attractive option. We havent ruled out other parts of Western Union County, but the commute for either of us isnt desireable. I eventually see their taxes reaching the levels of Gaston/Meck.
