I need some of you folks to give me your impression of Cherry Cabinets in a contempo kitchen with granite, etc.? Is this an outdated look? Also, is it me or do most folks like that traditional look in charlotte as oppossed to the slickness of a contemp home?
Thanks
My parents are having their kitchen remodeled, and the one thing about actual cherrywood cabinets that has stuck with me is that they get darker over time. (the black in the graining starts to come out)
Just something you might want to get in mind.
If it's just maple stained in a cherry finish, you won't have that problem.
Remember, go with what you are comfortable with; you have to not only live in it but pay for it!
We had cherry cabinets in our last house and had verde pavo (dark green) granite countertops put in. It gave the kitchen a much more formal look than before. But as the previous poster said, you've got to be comfortable with the look because you're living with it.

I would go with what you like. I don't like dark wood at all unless it's black. I picked natural maple cabinets, I'm not sure if that's in or out right now but I know I can't live with dark wood.
I think you are right most people in Charlotte do traditional that's all I ever see. I tried to modernize my kitchen by picking a slick black cook top hood. If you like cherry and are trying to do modern maybe you should do cherry with absolute black granite and do a modern backsplash.

I was recently told by somone that the Cherry Cabinets were outdated. She also told me that the new trend is more of a lighter color.

I thought they were a walnut color. I didn't think they were cherry. Whatever it is, it's put together like a million bucks. Looks great!
I actually suggested he do absolute black just like you and a nice backsplash. Your backsplash rocks. Slate is my absolute favorite!!
