Perhaps this is a lame question, but what color is this mulch? Is the local kind the same color as the national brand?

It is available in many different colors from the traditional ones to more eclectic colors such as blue, purple, etc.

Smile Rubber Mulch for playground kids safety

Hi,

We live in upstate New York with four small kids, we have a nice backyard with a big playground and swing set. At the time of purchase a good three years ago, we also got Rubber Mulch from a company in New Jersey called Rubberecycle they served us very well the price is paid off a long time ago, when i watched my two year old son fall head down we as parents realized how well the money invested.

About rubber mulch getting hot in the summer we do not find this a problem, could be we have some nice trees around the play area to protect from the sun.

Thank you for allowing to share our experiences with rubbermulch

Sunny, you are 100% correct.

I know people who installed rubber mulch & had it removed after it killed a lot of rhodos, azaleas, etc.

Summers in South Jersey are very similar, temperature-wise, to Charlotte but being 60 miles from the ocean, the humidity gets compared to Savannah.

In the sun, the rubber mulch was beastly hot & it started smelling really bad, by late July, in the shade. The stuff doesn't breathe & because of the ghastly humidity, grew so much mold that dirt had to be hauled away & new dirt brought in. Nobody uses the rubber mulch around here. Mulch here is either pine bark or cedar chips.

My experience with rubber mulch:
After spreading it in my flower beds and around my trees I was told by my HOA that it is a fire hazard and must be removed. So, I had to have all the rubber mulch removed.
So, before you buy, do your research.

Hi,

Is it possible that better quality rubber mulch is safer and not fire hazard. I checked Google and came across Rubber Mulch Blog » Blog Archive » Pros and Cons of Using Rubber Mulch On Your Landscapes

and Rubber Mulch Blog » Blog Archive » Add Rubber Mulch to Your Garden – It Doesn’t Smell!

Thank you
