I'm going to a show at the Southern, 1st & Main in Charlottesville, and have not been there before. Is it easy to find on-street parking? We are happy to walk for a while if there's easy/cheap/free/safe parking somewhere not too far off. We will probably get something to eat too so any recommendations for vegetarian food in the area would be great. Thanks!

The Southern is downtown on a pedestrian mall, simply called the downtown mall. Off street parking will be hard to find for free for any extended period of time. There are plenty of parking lots and garages on Water St adjacent to the downtown mall, and one connected to the mall at the end on Market St. They aren't too bad for prices. No more than $10 for the few hours you will probably be there for. Some businesses validate your ticket for parking too. There are also a bunch of restaurants on the mall, I imagine some have to have a vegetarian menu, but not sure. On the parking issue, the Amtrak station farther down Main st has a pretty large gravel parking lot, also a restaurant there, so you might be able to find a free spot, it would take no more than 10 mins to walk to the show from there. Charlottesville is small, but compact so if you're not familiar with it you could get turned around easily, I would come armed with a GPS, map, or printed directions. There's probably a dozen different ways to get there, and they're all about the same timewise. Good luck and enjoy the show!

There is a bunch of off street parking just north of the ped mall....on East market/ market street, about 1 block off, and is 2 hr parking during the day, but after 6pm , you can park there all night (so you CAN pull in 2 4pm)

there is also the Omni, which costs more , but is convienent. and the 2 "city" parking towers on Water and market st. (you can also get stamped at most local places for a free 2 hours)

Himalayan Fusion and the Tea House both have lots of veggie dishes (thats on the pavilion side) and Revolutionary Soup is near the Omni end, has great items also.

Enjoy and have fun
