We lived in Cville for 7 years and loved it. There were a lot of fun yet unusual events (Shakespeare up at the Ruins, etc.) and it's a diverse and lively crowd with somebody for everybody
You really shouldn't ever be bored there, and I doubt you'd ever regret going to grad school there. Plus it's just gorgeous.

I lived in Charlottesville for a year when I went to grad school and loved it! It's a beautiful place to live but it obviously doesn't have the big city amenities you are probably wanting - but even then I found that a quick trip to Richmond or weekend stay in DC gave me the energy I wanted. Out of everywhere i've lived though, CVille definitely had the most character.
