Looking for a good southern style cafeteria/buffet. Wondering if there's any in the Chicagoland area?

A N'awlins crabhouse just opened up in Dolton on sibley. There is Dixie Kitchen in Lansing on Torrence and one in Evanston. There used to be one in Hyde Park. My favorite is Sabrinas in Hazel Crest on 175th & Kedzie. Its a soul food buffet, which is basically southern food.

Default Like "Texas Southern" pr " Soul food southern"????

Bjs market on stoney island is soul food, not as nice as Army & Lous, they do buffet sometimes, but it ain't a cafeteria.

Valois is not really just soul food.

I sorta do like some of the old schools Texas cafeteria food, but OCB is poor stand-in for resl deal....

Dusties southern buffet in matteson is pretty good. For a better dining experience with delicious southern influenced food try Flavor in flossmoor or Geo Soul in olympia fields. http://www.flavorrestaurant.net/

My first choice would be the BJ's Market & Bakery - it is a steamtable operation more than a cafeteria.

Manny's is about as far from soul food as you can get. It is more deli-like than anything else.

Just expect that in Chicago, you will pay about twice as much for good southern cooking than you would in any southern city.

They also have one in Hanover Park (I think) on Barrington Rd.
