FWIW my property taxes are around 3k.
I guess I don't consider $650,000 to be a "near million dollar" house.

My RE taxes are about 1.2% of the homes value.

Wow, that is LOW! I did the math on several houses in Glen Ellyn and the taxes are over 6% of the asking price on the 3 houses I looked at. If it were 1.2% that would be awesome.

I live in Chicago though. And sorry, I was off slightly, my RE taxes are 1.25%.

Based on MARKET value, my taxes run about 2-2.125% depending on what the local taxing bodies do with the multiplier from year to year. I would love paying just 1.25%. Then again, if the schools sucked because of that, then no.
