Is Matteson a nice area? Good schools, shopping, etc? How would the commute to the Museum of Science and Industry be?

You don't have to live in Matteson to shop in Matteson. Good shopping though. The schools have their problems (I'm in my mid twenties and grew up in Matteson district schools). Not a bad commute at all.

Not that I'm partial, but there are some good schools in the area, including where I teach! Seriously, do some research on the location, because there are two elementary districts, 159 and 162, depending mostly on which side of Cicero you are on. For high school, it is in Rich Township District 227. I don't want to give in to a conflict of interest by offering my personal opinions. But do some google searches on these districts and you can see the numbers and the news (look at southtownstar.com for local stories about what is going on there). There are some private elementary schools as well. There is a limited-enrollment charter high school -- Southland College Prep -- which is run by some of the same people that run elementary district 162. And many will send their high-school-aged kids to Marion Catholic, a very reputable school in Chicago Heights.
